The Victoria Women’s Centre Presents the #JeMérite 2022 Scholarship Recipient

The recipient of the #JeMérite scholarship for the year 2022 is Christen Ramsay.

Christen Ramsay has faced significant challenges that she continues to navigate today. This 19-year-old young woman has demonstrated great perseverance.

In 2021, Christen had to complete her secondary studies virtually due to the pandemic. Shortly after starting her university studies in nursing, she was diagnosed with vulvar melanoma. This skin cancer in the vulvar region greatly disrupted her life, but it did not prevent her from finding a way to continue her university education. Despite numerous medical consultations and treatments, and the physical and psychological stress of her situation, she managed to overcome these challenges and successfully complete her first year of studies.

Christen wants to share her journey to raise awareness and educate her peers about this illness. She is particularly focused on informing those around her about available resources, as melanoma cases in Canada among people aged 15-49 continue to rise. This young advocate is committed to contributing to the prevention of this disease. Her positive attitude and community engagement, especially in fundraising for the Cancer Society, are central to her actions.

This year, Christen will continue her second year in Nursing Science at Laurentian University.
