Centre Victoria pour femmes stands in solidarity with the Indigenous community

Centre Victoria pour femmes stands in solidarity with the Indigenous community, holding deep compassion for the 215 children whose remains were found at the site of a former residential school in Kamloops, British Columbia. We honour the families, survivors, and the more than 150,000 children who were part of this colonial system until recently. The trauma experienced spans generations, and the impacts of these harms continue to be felt. We feel grief, anger, and a deep sense of helplessness in the face of the collective work still needed to build a safer and more equitable world. It is time to name these realities, to stop looking away, and to do better.
We invite you to take concrete steps to learn more, deepen your understanding, and take action toward truth and reconciliation:
- Read the Reports of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.
- Read the 94 Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.
- Learn more about colonialism, residential schools, the Sixties Scoop, and other colonial and oppressive systems that continue to exist today.
- Follow new voices to broaden your perspective. Here are a few suggestions: National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation / Quebec Native Women / Relentless Indigenous Woman
